Ex-Trans Woman Speaks Out About Letting Children Undergo Irreversible Gender Transition Surgeries

18-year-old Kayla Lovdahl has already transitioned to a boy, regretted the decision and detransitioned back to a girl, and is now speaking out about children undergoing transition surgeries, as well as suing the doctors and hospitals that rushed her (allegedly) through gender treatment.

A lawsuit has claimed Kayla first chose to be a boy at age 11 after she learnt about transgender communities online.

At the age of 12, she was prescribed puberty blockers and testosterone by doctors, who had failed to provide proper psychological screening, telling her parents, "It’s better to have a live son than a dead daughter.”

At the age of 13, her healthy breasts were removed in a double mastectomy, and by the age of 17, she realised she made a mistake, and professionals had failed to protect her.

“The hardest part was being sold something that I believed was going to help me and make me feel better, only to do it and come out on the other side not feeling any better. I could always have waited, but I can’t undo it.”

She is now suing the Kaiser Foundation Hospitals and four doctors, seeking unspecified damages for causing “deep physical and emotional wounds and severe regret.”

“They essentially handed Kayla the prescription pad and allowed her naive, emotional, childish rollercoaster of feelings to dictate the so-called ‘treatment’ that she would receive,” the lawsuit said.

Her attorney Mark E. Trammell has said the hospital and doctors "breached the standard of care that they should be held to as medical professionals” by allowing her to transition so quickly.

A representative for Kaiser has said, “When adolescent patients, with parental consent, seek gender-affirming care, the patient’s care team carefully evaluates their treatment options and then a multidisciplinary team of physicians and other experienced professionals are available to provide the patient and their family with information, counseling, and other support."

“Care decisions always rest with the patient and their parents or guardians and, in every case, we respect the right of patients and their families to make informed decisions about their personal health.”

Kayla is one among others who are speaking out about their regret.

Trammell is also representing detransitioner Chloe Cole in a similar ongoing legal battle stating both cases “are really novel lawsuits in this country.”

He fully believes these lawsuits will “cause doctors and hospitals who are performing these types of surgeries to really give informed consent.”

Being able to change hair, names and pronouns is one thing, however undergoing irreversible medical decisions should not be allowed for minors, especially with the risk of becoming infertile.

Children are not even allowed to get a tattoo until the age of 18, so many believe allowing 13 year olds to undergo invasive elective procedures is unconscionable.
