Footage has surfaced of a 9 year old boy has surfaced hurtling through the air in an inflatable zorb ball, before crashing to the ground.
It occurred at a food and drink festival in Southport, UK.
The footage indicates two children playing inside separate balls before a third one comes into view.
Bystanders could only watch in horror as he swept through the sky, 20ft in the air, before starting to drop.
A staff member was seen running towards the ball as it lands in the distance.
He was airlifted to hospital following multiple injuries, described being in a serious but stable condition.
Witnesses claim the ball was swept up due to a "freak weather phenomena."
An investigation has been launched by the Health and Safety executive.
“We are investigating an incident in Southport on Sunday June 4 in which a nine-year-old-boy was seriously injured. We’ll provide further updates when appropriate.”
The company behind the creation of the balls wished the boy a "rapid recovery" and are assisting with multi-agency investigations into this "terrible freak accident."
Police are urging anyone with images or video to reach out.
