Daily COVID-19 cases have reached a new high in Jerusalem, with recent data stating 2,212 new cases per day. These numbers haven't been seen since March.
As of Tuesday morning, there were 138 patients experiencing serious conditions, which was increased by 17 overnight.
The Health Ministry has confirmed active cases have reached 13,147 and the death toll had reached 6,461.
Positive tests rose 2% for the first time since March, with 2.3% showing a positive reading out of 92,707 samples taken.
It was stated that 203 cases diagnoses last Monday had all returned from oversees within the previous 10 days. Around 2,000 infected travellers arrived in Israel this month.
Only one locality received the 'red' levels of infection.
Health Minister Nitzan Horowitz has said, "We are seeing a rapid rate of infection and we have taken steps. Unfortunately the numbers are expected to continue to rise, and we must note indifferent to it."
"We are in contact with the regulatory authorities regarding the possibility of giving a third dose. If and when we decide to do so, Israel will be prepared with a stockpile of vaccines for everyone."
As of Tuesday, it was confirmed 5,767,009 had received at least one vaccination and 5,321,379 were fully vaccinated.
Professor Gili Regev-Yochay has said, " don't think anyone expects the numbers to go down; obviously they will continue to go up. The question is whether we should concern ourselves with the number of verified cases, or start counting a little differently - those in serious condition and on ventilators. There is no doubt that there is a rise that needs to be addressed."
Prime Minister Naftali Bennett has said to continue, "insisting of sustaining livelihoods, the economy, education, and the freedom of Israeli citizens." |
