A man from Houston, Texas is facing up to five years behind bars, being found guilty of trying to sell face masks to Australia.

Arael Doolittle (56) has pleaded guilty to the scheme where he attempted to sell 50 million 3M N95 respirator masks to the Australian government.

These masks were however non-existent.

It has been reported the Australian government were prepared to spend over $317 million for the masks. Luckily, there was a disruption before the transaction could go through.

Doolittle's sentencing is scheduled for October 25th, where he could be sentenced to five years in federal prison. He could also receive a $250,000 fine.

The U.S Attorney General created the "COVID-19 Fraud Enforcement Task Force to marshal the resources of the Department of Justice in partnership with agencies across government to enhance efforts to combat and prevent pandemic-related fraud," earlier this year.
