The trial has started for French painter and decorator Cédric Jubillar, who reportedly murdered his wife Delphine Jubillar, mother to the couple's two young children.
Delphine has been missing for five years.
Cédric has been accused of killing Delphine and allegedly hiding her body after discovering texts between her and another man.
Delphine was a nurse, and had supposedly wanted a divorce after growing frustrated at his inability to keep steady work.
A lengthy investigation was conducted and in 2021, Cédric was arrested and charged with her murder.
Authorities excessively searched for Delphine using cadaver dogs, divers and drones, but to no avail. No body nor any forensic evidence has been found.
Cédric has extensively maintained his innocence and claims Delphine ran off, leaving their two children on the night of December 15th and 16th, 2020.
He also maintains the case against him is circumstantial.
It's been reported that during the early morning hours of December 16th, 2020, Cédric called authorities claiming he couldn't find his wife. Between the hours of 3:54AM and 9:52AM, he called her 185 times.
Prosecutors are claiming they have enough evidence to convict him, and say Delphine wouldn't have abandoned her children.
Reportedly, the couple's 6-year-old son had told authorities that he allegedly saw his parents fighting that night.
The trial began on Monday, with spectators arriving during the early hours of morning, wanting a seat inside the courthouse.
Said trial is expected to last four weeks.
