Disney Announces New Attractions

The Walt Disney Company has revealed multiple new attractions will be coming to its theme parks. 

A new Avatar experience will be built at Disney California Adventure, based on the second film. 

A show based on the life of founder Walt Disney will be opened in commemoration of Disneyland's 70th anniversary next year. It will feature an audio-animatronic figure of the founder.

Additionally, two attractions for the new Tropical Americas expansion will make its way to Disney's Animal Kingdom. One is set to follow Indiana Jones, while the other is inspired by Encanto. 

Tropical Americas is expected to open in 2027.

Billy Crystal announced an area located at Disney's Hollywood Studios would be dedicated to Monster's Inc, It's set to feature a suspended roller coaster that will simulate the experience of going through the door vault. 


Cars is also set to come to Magic Kingdom in a re-imagined area of Frontierland with two attractions. These will start to be built next year.

The announcements correlate with the expected U$60 billion Disney will be spending on capital investments.

Over the next decade, Disney is tipped to almost double its spending and deepen investments in its parks. The company will be re-imagining attractions across its twelve parks. 

"Everything that we’re going to share with you tonight is in active development. This means that plans are drawn. This means that dirt is moving. I just want to be clear with all the fans out there. This isn’t blue sky."


Disney CEO, Bob Iger said the company has plans to spend U$17 billion over the next decade at the Walt Disney World Resort.

Said investments will be used to build on recent attractions, such as Tiana's Bayou Adventure, inspired by The Princess and The Frog, the Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind roller coaster, and the Tron Lightcycle/Run.

"We have an obligation to continue to develop these huge businesses and amazing experiences that we have here in California and in Florida. And we will invest aggressively and heavily and intelligently."
