Couple Discover $40,000 Hidden Under Old Carpet

A couple has made an exciting and valuable discovery while they were renovating their home.

Josh and Emily have shared their renovation journey online and realised they'd "struck gold" when they ripped up the old carpet.

Under the old and dirty carpet was wooden "diamond parquet" flooring.

The video of the discovery has garnered over three million views.

In the video, Emily says, "Oh my gosh – Josh, Josh, Josh! It’s a diamond parquet."

In the comments, Josh explained, "We saw it was parquet in the corners but this was the first time we pulled it all the way to reveal it was diamond."

The couple revealed the flooring had been hidden under the carpet for around 30 years.

"We'd seen a tiny corner when we visited the house but when we found out it was diamond parquet in perfect condition we were blown away. We had a flooring specialist come round to have a look and told us it's some of the best type of oak he's seen and in excellent condition."

This expert told the couple the floor space covered was worth around £20,000 to £25,000 (approx. A$38,706 to $A48,383).

"We are going to keep it and do a fine sand throughout then finish with either a varnish or stain."

Some followers were confused about the fuss being made, while others were excited for the couple.

"You hit the floor lottery!!"

"At this point we’re going to start thanking previous generations for preserving such lovely hardwood floors under carpet like that."
