Murderer Scott Peterson Gives First Interview In 20 Years

It's been twenty years since Scott Peterson was sentenced to life behind bars for the murder of his wife Laci Peterson and their unborn son Conner.

Now, ready to tell his side of the story, Peterson will be speaking out for the first time since his sentencing in a new true crime documentary called Face to Face With Scott Peterson.

The first teaser was released on July 29, and shows director Shareen Anderson asking the question, "Why should anyone care about what you have to say 20 years later?"

Peterson is shown inside a prison visiting room but doesn't yet answer the question.

His sister-in-law, Janey, has insisted he was innocent all these years and says in the first look, "I believe my brother-in-law Scott was wrongfully convicted of that murder."

The documentary is set to be a three-part special, which will feature in-depth conversations with Peterson, as well as interviews with former detectives Al Brocchini and Jon Buehler, Peterson's former attorney Lara Yeretsian, and former ABC News Producer Mike Gudgell.

It will also follow the latest developments in the case, following the Los Angeles Innocence Project's announcement that they will be taking on the case, attempting to overturn the conviction.

This organisation is known for its work with wrongly convicted inmates. It filed four motions in January, one of which was for DNA testing.

The company alleged that "new evidence now supports Mr. Peterson's longstanding claim of innocence," according to court documentation.

This case took place back in 2002 when Laci's stepfather reported her missing after she disappeared on Christmas Eve.

Peterson has claimed he was fishing at the time. In April of the following year, male fetus remains were found by the San Francisco Bay, as well as a portion of the body of a woman. This led to Peterson's arrest.

He was later convicted of first-degree murder of Laci and second-degree murder of their unborn child. He was then sentenced to life in prison in 2004.

Following the announcement made by the Innocence Project, Peterson's attorney Pat Harris said, "I will confirm that we are thrilled to have the incredibly skilled attorneys at the L.A. Innocence Project and their expertise becoming involved in the efforts to prove Scott's innocence."

Face to Face With Scott Peterson is set to premiere on August 20th. See the teaser below.
