Hundreds of Drones Pulled Out of Yarra River

After suffering a mysterious technical glitch during a light display, hundreds of drones have now been pulled out of the Yarra River.

The display was meant to light up the sky above Melbourne's Docklands with messages supporting the Matildas before the Football World Cup.

Social media videos show the drones suffering technical glitches just moments before the display, heading into "automatic land" mode.

Five professional divers were deployed to head into the river and retrieve the drones.

Videos show divers swimming into the river off small boats and collecting them.

A media release states the drones were meant to fly in formation for ten minutes, "displaying a series of messages and images in support of our Matildas."

The Australian Traffic Network (ATN) operates the drones and said all flying regulations were being followed.

No one was injured and water police were on the scene, however it's still not known what caused the glitch and or how many landed in the water. Estimates suggest around 350 drones.
