James Gordon Meek, former ABC News reporter, is expected to plead guilty in a case accusing him of exchanging child porn content and sending disturbing messages about alleged perverted desires.
If he had been convicted at trial, he would've faced minimum five years in prison, and max 20 years. A plea deal would give him a much lighter sentence.
He was hit with charges in February following FBI raiding his home and seizing his electronics 10 months prior.
Dropbox had alerted officials child porn was being stored on his account.
They discovered three conversations expressing desires to sexually abuse children, and saw that Meek had received and sent photos/videos of child pornography and a troubling message saying, "Have you ever raped a toddler girl? It’s amazing.”
He also spoke about his fantasy of "abducting, drugging, and raping” a 12-year-old girl.
Feds claim his hoarded child porn images/videos on electronic devices and had conversations with minors on chat platforms.
He began working with ABC News in 2013 after being with the New York Daily News since 2006, where he broke the news that Al-Qaeda's plan to bomb NYC tunnels was snuffed out.
He served as a senior counterterrorism advisor and investigator for the US House Committee on Homeland Security, and won an Emmy in 2017 for breaking news coverage of the Pulse nightclub shooting.
Following the raid of his home, he resigned.
The change of plea hearing was confirmed as scheduled but no further information has been provided.
