US authorities are currently investigating the mysterious deaths of six women whose remains were found in and around Portland, Organ, and are trying to figure out if they are connected, and whether or not a serial killer is circulating.
Six women's bodies were found within 100 miles (160KM) of each other, on the sides of the roads, in the woods, and in secluded rural areas, starting in February continuing through last month.
Five law enforcement agencies are investigating the deaths, with at least three stating they are working with the others to determine if they are connected, and if the have a single perpetrator.
The most recent case, 22 year old Ashley Real was found dead in a heavily wooded area on May 7th, last seen at a transit centre in late March.
Joanna Speaks also disappeared in late March, her body located in a rural area on April 8th. She died due to blunt force trauma to head and neck, her death being declared a homicide.
This is the only cause of death that has been revealed.
Robyn Speaks, her sister, is concerned about the amount of women in the area turning up dead.
“I don’t want to ever scare people but reality is there are women dying at awful numbers. With each one, we as a family, we’ve talked about it, shared it, looked at the details. We’ve talked to the detectives to see if there are any similarities.”
A spokesperson for the Clackamas County Sheriff's Office has said detectives are looking at possible connections.
“As we do with all investigations of this nature, our detectives are following up on every lead in this case, including several tips that are coming in from the public and comments being made on social media."
“We are working with our partner agencies to determine if there are any connections between this case in Clackamas County and any others in the region.”
The Polk and Multnomah County Sheriff's Offices also said they were speaking with partner agencies about the deaths.
Bridget Webster's body was found on April 30th.
A week prior, the body of Charity Perry was found on April 24th, having vanished in early March.
The body of an unidentified Native American woman was also found on April 24th.
Just under 3 miles (5KM) of this, Kristin Smith was found dead on February 19th. She has been missing since last December.
Police are looking into connections, but are not releasing any information regarding suspects.
