A Chinese content creator has died following an excessive amount of strong alcohol was consumed while he was livestreaming.
Influencer "Sanqiange" was found dead 12 hours after the livestream that aired on China's version of TikTok.
During the stream, it appears he drank at least seven bottles of Baijiu, a Chinese liquor with an alcohol content of 30% to 60%.
He was allegedly involved in the online challenge "PK" against another creator.
"PK" is where two influencers compete for gifts or rewards from the audience, the loser facing punishment.
Drinking Baijiu appears to be the consequence he faced after losing three rounds.
“I don’t know how much he had consumed before I tuned in. But in the latter part of the video, I saw him finish three bottles before starting on a fourth,” a friend said.
“When his family found him, he was already gone, he didn’t even get a chance for emergency treatment."
The footage went viral, however is no longer viewable.
There are bans around drinking during livestreams, and the livestreamer had already been banned from the app for doing that previously.
A teen died earlier this year after participating in the “Benadryl challenge,” while another died engaging in the “blackout challenge.”
A group of teens jumped in front of moving vehicles in Indonesia in the “angel of death” TikTok challenge last year.
All of these have led to the concern of online challenges being completely dangerous, and many requesting the banning of each.
