Brisbane Plane Catches On Fire Before Takeoff

Over 70 passengers had a flight to Brisbane cancelled after the aircraft caught fire before takeoff from an airport in central Queensland.

Emergency services were called to report to a "small aircraft fire" at Moranbah Airport, around 2 hours drive from Mackay.

A spokesman from Queensland Fire and Emergency Services explained the fire was extinguished before crews arrived, but appeared to have been in the tail, and suspected to have begun due to a fuel leak on the exhaust.

All passengers were evacuated from the plane safely, with no injuries reported.

The spokesman said two crews were on scene for around 45 minutes before it was determined to be safe, and left in the hands of airport authorities and police.

This incident is now being investigated by the Australia Transport Safety Bureau.

One passenger said all aboard the flight had to disembark after smoke started coming from the plane.

“So we finish the week away at work with a bit of drama."
