Drunk Driver On Suicide Watch After Killing Newlywed Bride

A newlywed bride and groom were hit by an alleged drunk driver on the weekend, the bride dying while the groom was severely injured.

The drunk driver is currently in jail, now on suicide watch, authorities have reported.

Jamie Lee Komoroski, aged 25, was placed under suicide watch at Charleston County Jail on Saturday, after admitting to an officer that she had plans to kill herself.

She was behind the wheel of a rental Toyota on Friday night, allegedly plowing herself into a golf cart consisting of Samantha Hutchinson and her husband Aric. They were away from their wedding reception which took place in Folly Beach, just 40K south of Charleston.

A police affidavit advises officers arrived not long after 10:15PM where they found “multiple victims” spread around the area.

Samantha, aged 34, was not breathing, had no pulse and was declared dead at the scene. Her husband, plus two other passengers had been severely injured and are currently being treated in hospital.

Folly Beach Police have advised the suspect was not injured, driving 105km/h during the time of the crash, and smelt of alcohol refusing to take a breath test.

The affidavit claims the suspect told first repsonders she had had one beer and one tequila shot prior to accident.

When she was asked how she felt ranging from 1-10, 10 being completely sober, she rated herself an 8.

Currently, her blood results are pending, however, Charleston County records prove she has been charged with three felony DUIs, resulting in great bodily injury or death. She has also been charged with one count of reckless homicide.

She is currently being held without bail.

The newlywed's families are trying to come to terms with the loss, which happened during what was supposed to be the happiest time of the young couple's life.

“I was handed Aric’s wedding ring in a plastic bag at the hospital, five hours after Sam placed it on his finger and they read each other their vows,” the groom’s mother wrote on the GoFundMe started hours after the tragedy.

“Aric has lost the love of his life.”
