California Man Killed While Helping Ducks Cross Road

A California man has died following a strike by a car on Thursday night, after helping a family of ducks cross a busy road.

The crash took place in Rocklin, just 22 miles from Sacramento around 8PM.

William Wimsatt, a 12-year-old boy who witnessed the kindhearted stranger’s actions, said he stepped out of his car to help the ducks avoid traffic.

“He got out of the car and was shooing the ducks and everyone was clapping because he was being really nice."


William took pictures of him, still unidentified, as he helped the ducks cross the road.

“He helped them get up over the curb because all the little baby duckies were having trouble and then he walked in front of our car."

After the ducks were all safe, William confirmed other onlookers all applauded his kindness.

“My mom rolled down the window and said, ‘Good job, good job,’ and I said, ‘Good job’ to him too.”

After that, William confirmed he was struck by a car that appeared out of nowhere.


“I didn’t see the car actually hit him. All I remember is the sound and then him flying across the intersection."

“His shoes and one of his socks were right in front of our car.”

Summer Peterson, another onlooker said her child also witnessed the incident.

“They were saying, ‘Oh, it’s so cute. It’s so nice of him.’ And then all of a sudden he was hit by a car."

After he was hit, William's mother stepped out of her car to comfort the man's children, who had witnessed the accident from their car.

A memorial full of rubber duckies and flowers was set up on the corner the accident occurred.


William has hope people will remember the man's kindness.

“He was the only person to get out of the car and try and help them and probably the nicest person in the entire area. It’s not fair."

Police are currently investigating the cause of the fatality. A 17-year-old who was identified as the driver is cooperating with authorities and not facing any charges.

A DUI is not suspected.
