CSIRO Voyage Manager Ben Arthur has confirmed a ship that capsized almost 50 years ago off of the southwest coast of Tasmania has been found during a systematic seafloor survey.
"We had a hunch from some local fishing communities and previous seafloor survey that identified an unidentified shipwreck on the seafloor, and there was a hunch that it may have been the Blythe Star.
"We set aside around half a day to use some of the amazing systems that the RV investigator has on board to actually locate the shipwreck and be able to prove that it was, in fact, the Blythe Star, which had been missing for 50 years."
