Four people, including a film producer and a fake advocate, have been arrested by the Inter State Cell of Delhi Police Crime Branch for posing as Enforcement Directorate (ED) officials and extorting money off people.

The central agency of the ED had received multiple complaints that a man impersonating an ED official was sending fake notices to people and calling them.

The notices were sent under the name Rajeev Singh, special regional officer, Central Region Office. No such person or designation actually exists.

While under investigation, it was found that the group were using spoofing apps to send emails and spoofing landline numbers of different government officials to call and threaten victims.

Two people and an advocate were arrested near Parliament Street police station where they had travelled to receive the money they had extorted off a victim.

Two others were arrested later.

The individuals have been identified as Santosh Rai, Bhupender Singh Gusain, Kuldeep Kumar and Sanjay.

The conspiracy was hatched by Afzal Ahmed, Kumar, Sanjay, and Arjun Raghav.

Santosh Rai has a long history of cheating and extortion. He is also wanted in connection with other cases around the country.
