One Dead, One Police Staffer Injured Following Crash In Auckland, New Zealand

One has died and a police staffer has been injured after a collision on an Auckland motorway.

The police member was taken to hospital to treat serious injuries.

Police confirmed emergency services were called around 10:10am to report to a crash on the Upper Harbour Highway near Greenhithe.

One individual died at the scene.

Andrew Coster, Police Commissioner has revealed a police employee was also injured at the scene, while on duty in a speed camera van.

"Our staff member was seriously injured and taken to hospital in a critical condition. He is currently in hospital undergoing surgery."

"Police have notified his family and we are supporting them in every way we can at this devastating time. Our thoughts are with our colleague and his family."

It is believed the incident is "incredibly distressing" for the police community.

The incident is under investigation but it is believed the speed camera van was parked on the side of the road when it was struck by the other vehicle.

"The driver of the other vehicle has died at the scene, and police are supporting their family and providing support through Victim Support."

"Police remain at the scene and the Serious Crash Unit and Waitematā CIB are investigating the cause of the crash."

No further information has thus been released.
