Mike Parson, Missouri Republican Governor, has pardoned Patricia and Mark McCloskey, a St. Louis couple who were caught pointing guns at protestors near their home.
The couple pleaded guilty in June to misdemeanour charges. This was just one of the 12 pardons granted by Governor Parson.
In June 2020, the couple brought attention to themselves after they were spotted on video with guns outside of their mansion, pointing them towards protestors who were walking towards the St. Louis Mayor's home.
Mark was seen holding a rifle whereas Patricia was holding a handgun. They were pointing them towards protestors against then-Mayor Lyda Krewson's decision to publish names and addresses of people in order to favour police reform.
Mark pleaded guilty to fourth-degree assault and faced a $750 fine. Patricia pleaded guilty to second-degree harassment and faced a $2,000 fine.
The couple agreed to surrender the handgun and semi-automatic rifle in accordance with the terms of the plea bargain.
Mark stated he was "in imminent fear they [protestors] would run me over, kill me."
Court documents state Mark "purposely placed at least one person in apprehension of immediate physical injury."
Mark is now vying for his notoriety from the incident for a bid for the U.S. Senate. He even features pictures of him wielding the rifle on his campaign website and social media.
He is hoping for the spot of Roy Blunt who will not be seeking reelection next year. |
