A man is facing court after police retrieved a pistol, explosives, and detonators from a home in Sydney's southeast.

Police responded to a domestic incident in Chifley where a 22-year-old man was arrested and taken into police custody at Mascot Police Station.

Police returned to the home and retrieved a pistol along with a bag with rounds of ammunition.

They also found a suspicious case with wires protruding. They evacuated the premises and called the bomb squad.

The case was found to hold explosives and a detonator. Police separated the items and they were declared safe.

Other items that were retrieved include clothing and outlaw bikie gang paraphernalia.

The man is being charged with three counts of domestic violence including stalking and intimidation, multiple firearm offences, and possession and supply of explosives for unlawful purpose.

He has been refused bail and will be appearing in court next Monday.
