COVID-19 Could Soon be Treated At Home Thanks To Antiviral Pill

A new antiviral pill could be the answer to reducing the effects of COVID-19 and it could be available in Australia very soon.

The Federal Government is supposedly in talks with multiple pharmaceutical companies, expected to sign a pre-purchase deal for access to a new antiviral pill that could make dealing with COVID-19 easier.

The drug would be used to make people less infectious, and stop those who do have it from falling critically ill.

A note is that the vaccines such as AstraZeneca will NOT be replaced with the pill.

The pills are just being considered another layer of protection. 

The pills still have to pass quite a few clinical trials before they are made in Australia. It is said they will be critical in fighting COVID-19.

As of the moment, a drug called Remdesivir is what is being used to treat hospital patients with COVID-19. There are no current at-home treatments.

This is a situation the government is trying to change.
